Solid walls without a cavity, original lath and plaster in many of the ceilings, and a comprehensive layer of textured coating applied at some point in the seventies and eighties. Add a century of fireplaces removed, walls knocked through, and rewires chased in and made good by whoever was cheapest at the time, and the typical Blackburn terrace wall is sound underneath but a genuine patchwork on the surface.
The full room skim is the answer to almost all of that, and it is the single most requested job in the town.
