Clitheroe Rendering: Straight Walls, No Fuss

Rendering and Exterior Plastering is regular work in Clitheroe, and it is regular for a reason. Period stone and limestone cottages with original lime backgrounds that move and breathe, alongside higher-specification modern housing and extensions. Those conditions produce the same handful of problems again and again, which after a few hundred of them means Lee is quoting from experience of your actual house type rather than from a rate card.

Detailing is what makes render last, far more than the product on the bag. Bellcast beads at the base so water throws clear of the wall instead of tracking back behind it. Proper stop beads at every opening. Movement joints where the background changes from stone to block. And a scratch coat left to cure properly before the top coat goes anywhere near it. Every failed render you can point at on a Lancashire main road failed at one of those details, not in the mix.

In Clitheroe that usually shows up in the preparation rather than the finish. The trowelling is the same trade wherever you are; what changes town to town is how much work the background needs before any of it goes on. Underquote that stage and the job either overruns or the finish suffers, which is why rendering and exterior plastering here gets looked at properly before a figure is given.

Original coving and cornice is more common here than in the mill towns, and so is the damage to it. A run lost when a wall came out, a section destroyed by an old leak, or a previous repair that gave up trying to match and filled the gap with the nearest thing available. Extensions in particular need the junction between old and new handled properly, because that is exactly where a crack will appear if it is not.

Practicalities. A single elevation is typically several days including cure time between coats, and depends heavily on the weather. Priced per elevation and driven mostly by area, access and whether scaffold is needed. External work is also weather-dependent, so dates get set with a bit of give in them.
